30 out of every 100 missed calls become paid jobs in this scenario.
Some calls are spam, support requests or people who do not book. The percentage above accounts for that. Start with your own estimate and adjust it.

A missed call creates a revenue opportunity only when the caller could become a paying customer. Ten unanswered calls are not automatically ten lost jobs. Some are repeat calls, spam or existing customers; others may already have booked after you called back.
To estimate the opportunity still open, start with unique missed enquiries that have not already turned into customers. Then estimate what percentage could become paid jobs if you answered or followed up. This calculator applies that percentage once to the call count.
How to use this missed call cost calculator
- Count missed calls in a typical week. Exclude callers who already became customers later.
- Enter the average revenue you receive for one paid job.
- Adjust the percentage of missed calls that could become paid jobs. The starting 30% is an example, not a product claim. Results update as you type.
The calculation, in plain numbers
Weekly revenue scenario = missed calls per week × estimated conversion to paid jobs × average job revenue.
10 missed calls per week × 30% conversion = 3 potential paid jobs. At $500 per job, that is $1,500 per week, or an average of $6,500 per month and $78,000 per year, before costs. The 30% example applies to the full missed-call count; it already allows for calls that will not become customers.
The average monthly figure uses 52 weeks divided by 12. The annual figure uses 52 weeks at the same weekly rate. Seasonal demand, duplicate callers and later callbacks can change the outcome. Use your own records. Revenue is not profit.
What if fewer callers become customers?
Keep the same 10 missed calls per week and $500 job value, but change the conversion estimate. At 10%, the scenario is about $2,167 per month; at 20%, about $4,333; at 30%, $6,500. These are alternative assumptions, not measured outcomes or promised results.
Revenue opportunity is not profit or guaranteed recovery
The result is gross revenue from a scenario. It does not subtract materials, wages, travel or the cost of answering calls. It also assumes you have capacity to deliver the extra work. A booking alone is not a paid job.
For example, three additional paid jobs at $500 each produce $1,500 in revenue. If delivering those jobs costs $900, $600 remains before any additional call-handling fees and other business costs. Those costs are not included in this calculator.
Check the estimate against your own call log
- Review one typical week. Count each potential new customer once, even if they called several times.
- Remove spam, existing-customer requests and enquiries that already became customers through a later callback.
- Use revenue from completed paid jobs to estimate average job value. Keep all amounts in the same currency; the calculator displays dollars.
- Compare a cautious conversion estimate with a higher one. After changing your call coverage, track which enquiries actually become paid jobs.
Where an AI receptionist can help
AInvictus AI Receptionist can answer service calls, collect caller details and handle booking under your business rules. The calculator does not predict its conversion rate: the result depends on your callers, follow-up, availability and completed work.
Where missed calls fit in your workflow
If your team is on a job or busy with another customer, a caller still needs a clear next step. Review your call coverage, return-call process and booking rules before choosing a solution.

Missed call calculator FAQ
How do you calculate the cost of missed calls?
Multiply missed calls per week by the percentage you estimate could become paid jobs, then by average revenue per job. Divide the percentage by 100 first. The result is a weekly revenue scenario, not verified lost revenue. Average monthly revenue uses 52 weeks divided by 12; annual revenue uses 52 weeks.
How much is one missed call worth?
There is no fixed revenue value for a missed call. At an assumed 30% paid-job conversion rate and $500 average job revenue, the scenario is $150 per eligible missed call: 0.30 × $500. This is an average across the scenario, not money lost on every call or a guaranteed recovery.
Is this calculator free? Do I need to sign up?
It is free. No account, email address or signup is required. The calculation runs in your browser and updates when you change a number.
Does every missed call mean lost revenue?
No. Some calls are spam, support requests or callers who book later. Exclude callers who already became customers after a callback. Adjust the conversion percentage to account for spam, non-sales enquiries and people who do not book.
Can contractors and home service businesses use this tool?
Yes. Plumbers, HVAC contractors, electricians and other service businesses can enter their own call counts and job values. The example values are not industry benchmarks.
Is the recovery estimate an AI receptionist ROI calculation?
No. It models the percentage of missed calls you think could become paid jobs. The initial 30% is an editable example, not a measured AI conversion rate. It does not include service fees, labor costs or profit margins. A financial ROI calculation needs those costs and actual operating results.
Where can I find my call and booking numbers?
Use your phone system’s missed-call log for a typical week. Remove duplicates and callers who booked after a callback. Use booking or CRM records to estimate paid-job conversion and average revenue per job.
